Osteoporosis is responsible for more than 1.5 million
fractures annually, including over 300,000 hip fractures, approximately 700,000 vertebral fractures, 250,000 wrist
fractures, and 300,000

fractures at other sites. 80% of Americans estimated to
have osteoporosis are women. (15) And while the National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends 1,000–1,200 mg of
calcium per day for adults, American women 40 years of age and older only get an average of 702 mg per day of calcium
from their diet. (13,29)
Since everyone has bones, that means everyone is susceptible to osteoporosis—the thinning of bones as a result
of lost calcium. Bones are made up of living cells that are constantly dying and being replaced; it is a natural part
of the aging process. To help combat this, Encora is divided into morning and evening doses to maximize the daily
absorption of 1,000 mg of calcium. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and Encora’s daily divided dose of
800 IU of vitamin D has been show to decrease the risk of hip and nonvertebral fractures. (1)
Unlike over-the-counter supplements that deliver the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of vitamins and nutrients
all at once, the calcium found in Encora is taken so that the body can maximize its possible benefits. Our bodies
tend to excrete what they don’t immediately need. It’s entirely possible that when taking an OTC supplement
that you’re never getting the entire dose, even though you might be taking a “full” dose.
